Ref: 74/2022Date: 10 June 2022Time: 06:30 GMT Today morning, Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) killed a Palestinian civilian and wounded two others in excessive use of force during their incursion into Halhul city, south of Hebron. This crime reflects IOF’s loose shooting standards against the Palestinians despite no threat or danger immense to soldiers’ lives.According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 10:00 on Thursday, 09 June 2022, IOF moved into Halhul city, north of Hebron, and stationed on the main street. They then surrounded several residential buildings and topped the roofs. They raided and searched Halhul Exchange Company and confiscated about one million shekels. In the meantime, Palestinians gathered in the area and young men threw stones at IOF, who chased the stone-throwers and fired sound bombs, teargas canisters, rubber, and live bullets at them. The IOF’s shooting resulted in the injury of 3 Palestinians, who were then taken by a Palestinian Red Crescent Society’s (PRCS) ambulance to al-Mizan Hospital for treatment. At approximately 13:20, medical sources announced the death of Mahmoud Fayiz Abu ‘Aihour (27), succumbing to a bullet wound he sustained in his abdomen.Since the beginning of 2022, IOF murdered 55 Palestinians, including 44 civilians: 13 children, 5 women (one was a journalist) and the rest were activists; 3 of them were assassinated. Meanwhile, 841 Palestinians were injured, including 84 children, 4 women and 19 journalists. All of them are residents of the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, except for 9 fishermen in the Gaza Strip.PCHR reiterates its call upon the international community to take immediate action to end Israeli occupation’s crimes, and its call upon the ICC Prosecutor to investigate the situation in Palestine without any delay similar to its prompt action in Ukraine. PCHR also demand the High Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention fulfil their obligations as per Common Article 1 of the Convention, “undertake to respect and to ensure respect for the present Convention in all circumstances.” PCHR also calls upon the High Contracting Parties to uphold their commitment to Article 146 of the same Conventions, i.e., to hold accountable persons accused of committing grave breaches of the Convention, and to ensure protection for Palestinian civilians in the occupied territory.
