Woman Killed and 95 Persons Injured by Gunfire That Followed Declaration of Truce

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR)
condemns the unjustified intensive shooting by gunmen throughout the Gaza Strip
when the true entered into force, which killed a woman and injured 95 persons,
including 33 children and 15 women. PCHR
calls upon the Palestinian government to take action against the perpetrators,
and to take necessary steps to stop such incidents and protect people.
According to investigation conducted by PCHR, on
Tuesday evening, 26 August 2014, following the declaration of an
Egyptian-brokered truce in the Gaza Strip, dozens of gunmen opened fire in all
areas in the Gaza Strip. As a result of
these incidents, a woman was killed and 95 persons, including 33 children and 15
women, were injured.
The incidents were as follows:
In Gaza City, Randa Emad Mahmoud al-Nemer, 20, was
killed by a gunshot to the head when she was in the balcony of her house in
al-Shujaiya neighborhood in the east of Gaza City. Additionally, 58 persons, including 20
children and 9 women, were injured throughout Gaza City.
In the northern Gaza Strip, 25 persons, including 10
children and 3 women, were injured by intensive shooting in various areas.
In Khan Yunis, 20 persons, including 2 children and 2
women, were injured by intensive shooting.
In Rafah, a child and a woman were injured by
shooting.
The Ministry of Interior in Gaza issued a statement on
Tuesday evening, 26 August 2014, demanded stopping the shooting and confirming
that the police arrested a number of persons who fired into the air.[1]
In light of the above:
1. PCHR believes that these incidents are part of the phenomenon of the
misuse of weapons and violations of the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian
territory, and remind of the state of security chaos.
2. PCHR calls upon the Attorney General to seriously investigate these
incidents and prosecute the perpetrators.
3. PCHR calls upon the Palestinian government to take necessary measures to
protect the lives of Palestinians and ensure their non-recurrence.
