7 Palestinians Injured, including 5 Children, in 2 Incidents of Misusing Weapons in Khan Yunis
PCHR’s preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 15:00 on Wednesday, 26 July 2006, Mohammad Khamis Qandil (17) was injured by a bullet in the abdomen. The bullet was accidentally fired when 2 gunmen mishandled their weapons around the Big Mosque in Khan Yunis. Qandil was taken to Naser Hospital, where his injury was listed as moderate.
At approximately 17:30 on Tuesday, 25 July 2006, a mysterious object exploded as it was handled by Khalil Abu Jam’e (47) in the yard of his house in the town of Bani Suheila, east of Khan Yunis. The explosion cut off Abu Jam’e’s left hand and caused shrapnel injuries in his abdomen. Abu Jam’e’s wife (46) was injured by shrapnel in the legs; and 4 children from the Abu Jam’e clan were injured as well. They were taken to Naser Hospital, where their injuries were listed as moderate. It is noted that Abu Jam’e and his sons collect aluminum, copper, and plastic from streets, and clean them before reselling them. The injured children:
– Samer S’rour Abu Jam’e (3) was injured by shrapnel in different parts of the body;
– Ibrahim Mohammad Abu Jam’e (14) was injured by shrapnel in different parts of the body;
– Hussein Mohammad Abu Jam’e (16) was injured by shrapnel in different parts of the body; and
– Mohammad Ahmad Abu Jam’e (17) was injured by shrapnel in different parts of the body;
PCHR is gravely concerned over the continued falling of victims due to misuse of weapons by armed Palestinian groups and individuals, which is part of the security chaos plaguing the Occupied Palestinian Territory, and calls upon the PNA, represented by the Attorney-General, to investigate these incidents and bring the perpetrators to justice.
