Field Update

  

On Tuesday, 28 June 2011, two masked gunmen
fired at Adel Amoum, 38, from al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza
Strip. As a result, he was seriously
wounded.  This incident is part of the state
of misuse of weapons and violations of the rule of law in the Occupied
Palestinian Territory.

 

According to investigations conducted by the
Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) and testimonies of eyewitnesses, at approximately
05:30 on Thursday, 28 June 2011, two masked gunmen fired at Adel Ezzat Amoum,
38, from al-Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, while he was inside
a pickup truck in his warehouse in the vicinity of the camp’s market. As a result, Amoum was wounded by several
gunshots to his thighs and right hand. He was transported to al-Aqsa Martyrs’
Hospital in Deir al-Balah to receive necessary medical treatment. Medical sources described his wounds as serious,
and he had to be transported to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City to undergo urgent
surgery. He was placed into the intensive care unit.

 

Nasser Amoum, the victim’s brother, said that
the Palestinian police arrived at al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Hospital after the incident
had taken place and initiated an investigation into the incident.

 

PCHR condemns this attack, which is part of the
state of misuse of weapons and violations of the rule of law. PCHR calls upon the Attorney General to
investigate this attack and prosecute the perpetrators.
