Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Centre for
Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 02:30 on Sunday, 01 December 2013, a
number of civilians and security officers of Kamal Odwan Hospital in Beit Lahia
found the corpse of Iyad Abdul Karim Hassan al-Madhoun (41), from Bloc (8) in
Jabalia refugee camp in the northern Gaza Strip, near the western gate of the
hospital. Al-Madhoun was admitted to the hospital, but it was found that he was
dead in advance. In addition, there were signs of severe torture and bruises
throughout the corpse, which was transferred to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City to
be examined at the Forensic Department.
Officers from the Palestinian police and Internal Security Service
arrived at the hospital and initiated an investigation in the incident.
According to information obtained by PCHR from al-Madhoun’s family,
at approximately 22:00 on Saturday, 30 November 2013, unknown persons kidnapped
al-Madhoun from his house and took him to an unknown destination until his
corpse was found near the hospital.
PCHR strongly condemns this crime that is part of the state of
security chaos and assaults on the rule of law in the oPt. PCHR also calls upon
the Attorney General to seriously investigate the incident and bring the
perpetrators to justice.
