Field Update

 

On Wednesday, 08 April 2015, a civilian from al-Zaitoun
neighborhood in Gaza City was shot dead by a relative of him. This incident is
part of the state of proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in
the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).

According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for
Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 20:30 on Wednesday, 08 April 2015, Nazmi
Hamdan al-Barrawi Malaka (50), from al-Zaitoun neighborhood near al-Shafe’i
Mosque in the south of Gaza City, was shot dead by a masked person near his
house. The victim was taken to the hospital, where a medical source stated that
Malaka sustained several bullet wounds throughout his body, due to which he
immediately died.

According to Ayman al-Batniji, Spokesman of the Palestinian Police,
the police arrested the killer, who is the victim’s nephew, and investigations are
in process to identify the reasons that pushed him to kill his uncle.

PCHR condemns this attack, which is part of the state of
proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the oPt, and calls
upon the Attorney General’s office to seriously investigate the incident,
prosecute the perpetrator and bring him to justice.
