On Saturday evening, 18 April 2015, two explosive devices were
detonated; one of which exploded in front of the UNRWA headquarter and the
other exploded in front of the Islamic University in Gaza City, but neither
casualties nor material damage were reported. The day before, an explosive
device was detonated in front of the Ministers’ Council, west of Gaza City.
Furthermore, last Wednesday witnessed a similar explosion in al-Shati’ market.
These explosions are part of the state of security chaos and assault on the
rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for
Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 22:30 on Saturday, 18 April 2015, an
explosion occurred in a garbage container near al-Khaledi building opposite to
the Islamic University in the west of Gaza City. It was found that the
explosion resulted from a home-made explosive device that was put in a garbage
container, but neither casualties nor serious material damage were reported.
Another explosion occurred at approximately 22:00, in front of
al-Sousi building on al-Sena’a Street near the UNRWA headquarter. The explosion
also resulted from a home-made explosive device that was put in a garbage
container. Neither casualties nor serious material damage resulted from the
explosion that rocked the area.
Furthermore, a third explosion resulted from an explosive device at
approximately 22:00 on Friday, 17 April, in front of the Ministers’ Council in
Gaza City. However, no casualties were reported.
Al-Shati’ refugee camp, west of the city, witnessed another
explosion in the camp’s market on Wednesday, 15 April. No casualties were
reported as well.
PCHR learnt that the police arrived at all places in which
explosions occurred, examined the scenes and initiated investigations.
PCHR condemns these explosions, which are part of the state of
security chaos and assault on the rule of law in the oPt. Moreover, PCHR calls
upon the Attorney General’s office to initiate a serious investigation and
bring the perpetrators to justice.
