The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) condemns an arson
attack on the car of Sheikh Tayseer Rajab al-Tamimi, former Chief Justice of
Palestine and Head of Freedom and Independence Party (Hares), by unknown
persons in Hebron on Friday, 21 December 2012. PCHR sees this attack as part of the state of security chaos and assaults
on the rule of law in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt).
According to investigations conducted by PCHR, and the testimony of
Sheikh Tayseer al-Tamimi, 60, at approximately, 02:00 on Friday, 21 December
2012, a heavy explosion occurred in front of Sheikh al-Tamimi’s house in Abu
Rumman area in Hebron in the south of the West Bank. It was found out that the explosion resulted
from setting fire to Sheikh al-Tamimi’s car, which was parked in front of the
house. Sheikh al-Tamimi stated to PCHR that
his wife awoke him at that time telling him that there was a smoke smell in the
house. He called the Civil Defense,
whose crew arrived at the scene nearly an hour later and extinguished the
fire. The police also arrived at the
scene and opened an investigation.
PCHR condemns this attack, which is part of the state of security
chaos and assaults on the rule of law in the oPt, and calls upon the public
prosecution to seriously investigate it, search for the perpetrators and bring
them before justice.
