On 28 November 2011, the Women’s Rights Unit in
the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) has launched a series of
activities throughout the Gaza Strip.
These activities are organized to coincide with the 16 Days of Activism
against Gender Violence Campaign which runs from 25 November (International Day
for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (the anniversary
of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights).
This year, PCHR’s Women’s Rights Unit is
organizing a number of awareness lectures on violence against women. The lectures will focus on the Declaration
for the Elimination of Violence against Women and on introducing mechanisms of
legal protection available to women who are victims of violence.
The Unit is planning to organize 9 lectures
this year in coordination with community-based and women’s organizations and a
number of schools. The lectures target
women and teachers in some schools throughout the south of the Gaza Strip. The first lecture was organized on 28
November 2011 in the offices of Union of Palestinian
Women’s Committees for Agricultural Work and the second lecture was held on 29
November 2011 in the offices of al-Qarara Neighborhood Committee in al-Qarara
village, south of the Gaza Strip.
Lectures will continue to be held till 08 December 2011.
In the same campaign, PCHR’s Women’s Rights
Unit will participate in a number of activities organized by al-Amal Alliance
to Combat Violence Against Women.
