Ref: 38/2016
On Thursday, 13 October 2016, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) received a delegation from the Norwegian Representative Office to the Palestinian Authority (PA). The delegation comprised of Hans Oseas Langaker, Second Secretary and Political Affairs Official, and Tor Erik Gjerde, Head of Developmental Co-operation, met with Raji Sourani, PCHR’s Director, and Hamdi Shaqqoura, PCHR’s Deputy Director for Program Affairs.
The meeting was held in light of the ongoing partnership between PCHR and the Representative Office of Norway. Both sides stressed the importance of mutual cooperation. They also reviewed the human rights situation and efforts exerted by PCHR and its partners, especially the work on the International Criminal Court (ICC) and requirements of the initial examination stages started by the ICC from January 2015.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed the latest developments in the Palestinian local elections, in light of the recent obstacles that have prevented holding elections on its scheduled date, 08 November 2016. During the meeting, Sourani stressed the importance of holding local elections, considering it as an important step to end the Palestinian internal division and hold public elections in the PA.
