Defending Palestinian civilians against the Israeli occupations forces’ crimes is a right of and an obligation on the PNA

The number of victims of crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces and settlers against Palestinian civilians has increased to 83 martyrs and more than 2200 cases of injury during the last 10 days. This morning, Palestinian citizens found the body of Ali Sayel Sweidan, 25 years old, from Azzoun village near Qalqilya. He was shot dead in the head by an Israeli settler yesterday. Palestinian citizens found also the body of E’ssam Joudeh Hamad, 26 years old from Um Safa village near Ramallah. He was killed and mutilated with sharp tools near the settlement of Halmish. Yesterday, Abdel Hamid Taye’ Zeq, 18 years old from Al-Mazra’ Al-Sharqia village near Ramallah, died in hospital. He was shot in the head by the Israeli occupation forces on October 4, 2000.

Yesterday evening, in Nazareth inside the Green Line, Israeli police shot at Palestinian demonstrators and killed O’mar Mohammed Akkawi, 42 years old, with a bullet in the neck as well as Wessam Hamdan Yazbek injured in the chest. PCHR learned that tens of Palestinian civilians were injured by the Israeli police which intervened to disperse peaceful demonstrations using live ammunition.

In Gaza, Yousef Thiab Khalaf, 17 years old from Al-Boreij, died in hospital yesterday. The martyr Khalaf was shot in the head shot by the Israeli occupation forces on October 2, 2000. In the meantime, the Israeli occupation forces continue to impose a comprehensive siege on the whole occupied Palestinian territory. Today, the Israeli occupation authorities cancelled permits of about 43 Palestinian laborers from the West Bank and Gaza Strip, who work in Israel.

PCHR reiterates its condemnation of the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation forces and Israeli settlers, who carry out their crimes in coordination with these forces, against Palestinian civilians. PCHR:

Emphasizes the right of the Palestinian National Authority and the Palestinian people with their political and non-governmental parties to defend themselves against the Israeli occupation forces’ crimes.
Reiterates its call for an immediate international intervention to halt such crimes, and to provide protection for Palestinian civilians in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Reiterates its call on the High Contracting Parties to the 1949 Fourth Convention to ensure Israel’s compliance to its obligation under the Convention, and ensure protection of Palestinian civilians in the occupied Palestinian territory.
Calls upon the United Nations Secretary General to immediately form an inquiry committee under the auspices of the United Nations to investigate the Israeli occupation crimes, according to UN Security Council Resolution 1322 of October 7, 2000.
