Clashes continue in the occupied Palestinian territories:

Four are killed and dozens wounded

Today, clashes broke out between Palestinian demonstrators and the Israeli occupation forces throughout the occupied Palestinian territories. The Israeli occupation forces opened fire at Palestinian citizens killing two of them in Nablus and one in Gaza and wounding dozens throughout the occupied Palestinian territories. In Jenin, a Palestinian civilian died this morning from a previous wound in the head on October 26, 2000. Thus, the number of Palestinians who have been killed since September 29, 2000 has increased to 131. In addition more than 4,000 Palestinians have been wounded.

This afternoon, clashes broke out between Palestinian demonstrators and the Israeli occupation forces near Karni Outlet on a road between Netzarim junction and Karni Outlet used by Jewish settlers. The Israeli occupation forces fired live ammunition and rubber-coated metal bullets at Palestinian demonstrators and fired rockets at a post of the Palestinian National Security Service. As a result, Samir Mousa Eleiwa, 31 years old, from Al-Zaytoon neighborhood in Gaza, was killed with two bullets in the chest and abdomen. PCHR’s field officer in the area reported that 13 Palestinian civilians were wounded with live ammunition and 15 wounded with rubber-coated metal bullets or splinters of rockets fired by the Israeli occupation forces. The Israeli occupation forces have closed the above-mentioned road between Salah El-Din street, the main road between the north of the Gaza Strip and its south, and Karni Outlet. PCHR’s field worker stated that he saw the Israeli occupation forces sweeping tracts of agricultural land to the west of Karni Outlet. Because of the wide-range deployment of these occupying forces in the area, it was difficult to get more details on this developing situation.

In Nablus, the Israeli occupation forces opened fire from their machine guns this afternoon on Palestinian demonstrators in Al-Quds street killing two and wounding dozens. PCHR learned that the two martyrs are: Shadi Hssan El-Shouli from the village of Northern Assira, and Esmat Khalil El-Saber, 34 years old, from Nablus. The two martyrs were hit by bullets in the chest. PCHR learned also that clashes were ongoing when this press release was being written. PCHR learned that more than 50 Palestinian civilians were wounded in clashes with the Israeli occupation forces in Ramallah, Nablus, Tulkarm and Hebron.

This morning, Fadi Amin Al-Hrosi, 22 years old, from the refugee camp of Jenin, died at Al-Enjili hospital from a wound in the head on October 26, 2000.

In Khan Yunis, clashes broke out between Palestinian demonstrators and the Israeli occupation forces near an Israeli military post to the west of the refugee camp of Khan Yunis and near Al-Tuffah roadblock between Khan Yunis city and Al-Mawasi (agricultural) area. The Israeli occupation forces opened fire on Palestinian demonstrators wounding 13 civilians with live ammunition and 23 with rubber-coated metal bullets. PCHR’s field officer in Khan Yunis reported that six of the wounded are in serious condition. They are:

  1. Abdel-Nasser Yousef Abu El-Khair, 14 years old, wounded with a live bullet in the head,
  2. Sae’id Manar Wadi, 18 years old, wounded with a dum-dum bullet in the foot causing a hole of 10cm in diameter,
  3. Nadi Abdel-Hadi Qedeih, 38 years old, wounded with a live bullet in the back,
  4. Mohammed Helmi Barbakh, 18 years old, wounded with a rubber-coated metal bullet in the head,
  5. Eihab Mohammed Fayyadh, 13 years old, wounded with a rubber-coated metal bullet in the head, and
  6. Ali Hassan El-Zaqzouq, 15 years old, wounded with a rubber-coated metal bullet in the head.

 

The Israeli occupation soldiers assaulted a number of Palestinian civilians in Al-Mawasi (agricultural) area which is under the security control of the Israeli occupation forces. Dozens of Palestinian civilians in the areas of clashes and nearby houses were hurt due to inhaling tear gas.

In the vicinity of Kfar Darom settlement, clashes broke out this afternoon between Palestinian demonstrators and the Israeli occupation forces. These forces fired live ammunition and tear gas canisters. As a result, four Palestinian civilians were wounded with live ammunition.

In Rafah, clashes broke out between Palestinian demonstrators and the Israeli occupation forces near Salah El-Din Gate on the Palestinian-Egyptian border, and near Tal Al-Sultan road block in the west of the town (separating it from Al-Mawasi). The Israeli occupation forces opened fire on Palestinian demonstrators in the two areas of clashes and wounded seven of them with live ammunition, one of whom, Husni Ibrahim Al-Najjar, 16 years old, was wounded with a live bullet and is in critical condition. The rest of the wounded are in moderate condition and they were wounded in the upper part of the body. They are:

  1. Hani El-Nahhal, 14 years old, wounded with a live bullet in the neck,
  2. A’wadh Abu A’rmaneh, 13 years old, wounded with a live bullet in the shoulder,
  3. Rae’d El-Sheikh Ali, 15 years old, wounded with a live bullet in the chest,
  4. Moe’in E’lwan, 23 years old, wounded with a live bullet in the shoulder,
  5. Jamal Abu Dhebaa’, 18 years old, wounded with a live bullet in the face, and
  6. E’mran Zou’rob, 18 years old, wounded with a live bullet in the face.

 

PCHR’s Notes on Today’s Clashes in the Gaza Strip:

 

  1. There is a significant escalation of shooting at Palestinian demonstrators by the Israeli occupation forces; two Palestinian civilians were killed in Nablus and one in Gaza. In Jenin, a civilian died from injuries incurred from Israeli occupying forces on October 26, 2000.
  2. In the Gaza Strip, 36 Palestinian civilians were wounded with live ammunition and 38 wounded with rubber-coated metal bullets and splinters of rockets.
  3. Twelve of the wounded are in serious or moderate condition as they were wounded in the head, chest and abdomen. Eleven of these are children of the age 12-18 years.
  4. One of the wounded received a bullet in the back. This provides evidence of indiscriminate shooting or targeting with the aim to kill.
  5. The Israeli occupation forces reinforced their presence and restricted movement of people and means of transportation by closing roads.
