As Part of Their Ongoing Genocide, Israel Intensifies Bombardment and Killings of Displaced Civilians and Continues to Erase Entire Neighborhoods in Gaza Strip

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) continue their widescale military aggression against the Gaza Strip, including bombing shelters, houses, and tents sheltering displaced people, committing mass killings alongside the systematic destruction of the remaining buildings and infrastructure to turn Gaza into an unlivable zone. These acts are part of a genocide that has persisted for twenty consecutive months.

These crimes are accompanied by IOF’s restrictions on humanitarian aid entry, particularly food, medicine, and fuel, and deliberate use of mass starvation as a weapon of warfare. This is part of a systematic policy aimed at subjugating the civilian population and eradicating their existence.

In one of the recent incidents documented by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR), at approximately 01:00 on Monday, 26 May 2025, the IOF targeted with three explosive-laden drones Fehmi al-Jerjawi School, sheltering displaced people in al-Daraj neighborhood, east of Gaza City. The attack ignited fires in the targeted classrooms. As a result, 31 people were killed, including 18 children and 6 women, most of them were left charred bodies, while dozens of others sustained various injuries and burns.

At dawn on the same day, Israeli warplanes targeted ‘Abed Rabbu family house in Jabalia, north of the Gaza Strip, killing 19 people, including women and children.

In the early hours of the same day, Israeli warplanes bombed Shurrab family house, southeast of Khan Yunis, killing the parents, their four sons, and their brother-in-law from the al-Agha family.

At approximately 03:00 on Sunday, 25 May 2025, Israeli warplanes launched an airstrike on Shehada family house in al-Nazla roundabout in Jabalia, north of the Gaza Strip. As a result, a mother and her two children were killed, while others were injured. Those killed were identified as Alaa Baker Ahmed Shehada (33), and her two children Ameer (5) and Fares (4) Mohammed Jamal Shehada.

At around 10:30 on Sunday, 25 May 2025, an Israeli drone targeted a tent sheltering displaced members of the Shalabi family, originally from Rafah, in western Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip. As a result, six family members were killed, including a father and his four children, while others sustained injuries.

At approximately 11:35 on the same day, an Israeli drone targeted Abu al-Nar family house in southern al-Nusirat camp in central Gaza Strip. As a result, Ashraf Hasan Abu al-Nar, Director of the Central Operations Department at the General Directorate of Civil Defense, his wife, Su’ad Ahmed Abu al-Nar, were killed.

At around 01:30 on Saturday, 24 May 2025, an Israeli drone bombed a tent for Abu Amona family near al-‘Attar petrol station in al-Mawasi area in Khan Yunis, killing Eslam Mohammed Mousa Madi (32), her brother-in-law’s daughter Misk Mahmoud Fareed Madi (2), while 16 others sustained various injuries.

At approximately 14:05 on Friday, 23 May 2025, Israeli warplanes targeted a four-storey house belonging to al-Najjar family in Qizan al-Najjar, south of Khan Yunis. The attack destroyed the house, causing it to collapse onto a nearby house and ignite a fire. As a result, 10 people, including 9 sibling children, were killed. The children’s father, Hamdi Yehia al-Najjar, a doctor, was seriously injured, along with his only surviving child, Adam. Two of the nine children remain trapped under the rubble. The children’s mother, a pediatrician at Nasser Medical Complex, received the charred bodies of her children in a heartbreaking scene.

Our researchers stated that the IOF continue to carry out extensive house demolitions, especially in eastern Khan Yunis and eastern Gaza City and northern Gaza Strip, where the IOF completely destroy the remaining buildings using explosive-laden robots or through aerial bombardments.  All these demolitions occur in areas that do not witness any combats, emphasizing that the IOF’s sole aim is to destroy everything, erase Palestinian existence, and render these areas uninhabitable. Through these actions, Israel intends to turn the Gaza Strip into unlivable zone and thereby forcibly displace its population.

PCHR reiterates it calls for urgent and tangible measures to halt the ongoing genocide and ensure accountability of the Israeli officials for their crimes before international courts. PCHR also urges all States Parties to the Genocide Convention to uphold their legal and moral obligations and to take immediate action to protect Palestinian civilians from mass killings and serious human rights violations.
