The Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR) organized 2 awareness-raising workshops on the right to health in the international human rights law, in cooperation with the branch office of the International Union of Dentistry Students in the Gaza Strip. Both workshops were held in Commodore Hotel in Gaza City, where 52 students from the Dentistry College in al-Azhar University in Gaza attended.
The first workshop was organized on Wednesday, 02 September 2015. It was attended by 23 students from the Dentistry College in al-Azhar University. The second workshop was organized on Thursday, 03 September 2015, and was attended by 29 students from the same college.
During the workshops, Khalil Shaheen, the Director of PCHR’s Economic and Social Rights Unit, addressed the right to health and the international obligations to ensure the right to the highest attainable standard of health as a fundamental right, including the legal obligations under the International Convent of the Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESC). Moreover, Khalil reviewed the reality of the health services in the Gaza Strip, including the primary health care services and health services in the second and third levels.
