With the attendance of 35 participants, including 27 female participants, representing 4 youth groups, on Thursday, 08 February 2018, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) concluded a training course in the field of human rights.  The 20-hour training course was held in Marna House Hall in Gaza City between 05 and 08 February 2018.

The program of the course included a number of international human rights instruments, including the International Bill of Human Rights (the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights); United Nations Human Rights Committee; Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women; PCHR’s role in protecting the right to movement and right to healthcare; principle of rule of law and Independence of Judiciary; and Mechanisms of Monitoring and Documenting Human Rights Violations.

A team of PCHR’s trainers facilitated the training sessions. The team included Bassam al-Aqra’a, Director of the PCHR’s Training Unit; Mohammed ‘Atallah, a trainer at the Unit; Majedah Shehadah, a Researcher at PCHR’s Women’s Unit; and Ahlam Meimah and Mohammed Bseiso, both lawyers at PCHR’s Legal Unit.

At the end of the course, PCHR organized a closing ceremony.  Bassam al-Aqra’a, Director of the Training Unit, emphasized PCHR’s long-term efforts to disseminate the culture of human rights among youth groups and members of the active community-based organizations in the Gaza Strip. Al-Aqra’a added that the relationship between PCHR and the participants in the course does not end at the end of the course but it shall be enhanced as PCHR’s doors will always be open to participants in order to benefit from PCHR’s experience relevant to what they have learned.

Asil Yaghi, Participant in the course, emphasized the importance of holding such courses in contributing to raising youth’s awareness of human rights and importance of benefiting from PCHR’s experience in this field.  Mohammed Abu Shaqfah, from Amjad for Creativity and Community Development and participant in the course, stressed that the course was distinguished with its rich topics and contributed to raising participants’ awareness of human rights; trainers’ efficiency and various and interactive training methods used in the course

At the end of the ceremony, all participants received certificates.
