Today morning, 17 April 2012, lawyer Raji Sourani, Director of the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), received Axel Wernhoff, Consul General of Sweden, Gert Clockx, Consul General of Belgium, and Lars Rehof, the Danish Representative to the Palestinian Authority, in PCHR's head office in Gaza City.

Sourani welcomed the visitors and thanked them for their interest and support to the Palestinian cause and people.  He briefed them on the human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, especially the Gaza Strip.

Sourani focused on the Israeli measures aimed at institutionalization of the closure that has been imposed on the Gaza Strip for over five years.  He pointed to the impacts of the closure on the civilians' life at the economic, social, humanitarian and health levels, including the latest fuel and power crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Sourani warned against institutionalization of the closure, explaining that, even from the Israeli perspective, the reasons for imposing the closure diminished by the release of Gilad Shalit, and Israeli soldier who had been captured in the Gaza Strip.

Sourani urged the three diplomats to work on putting an end to the unjust, illegal and inhumane closure, due to its disastrous impacts on all aspects of life in the Gaza Strip.

Sourani also addressed the issue of preventing the prisoners' families in the Gaza Strip from visiting their relatives who are detained in the Israeli jails.  He further talked about the Israeli systematic policies against the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails; the most prominent of which are solitary confinement, administrative detention, cruel detention conditions, and inhumane and degrading treatment.    

وقد رحب الصوراني في بداية اللقاء بالزوار وشكرهم على اهتمامهم ودعمهم للقضية الفلسطينية والشعب الفلسطيني، ثم استعرض أمامهم مجمل تطورات أوضاع حقوق الإنسان في الأرض الفلسطينية المحتلة وخاصة في قطاع غزة.

وعلى نحو خاص، ركز الصوراني على الإجراءات الإسرائيلية المنفذة في إطار مأسسة الحصار  المستمر على قطاع غزة منذ أكثر من 5 سنوات، مشيراً إلى تداعياته المختلفة على مجمل حياة السكان المدنيين وعلى المستويات الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والإنسانية والصحية والذي كان من تجلياته الأخيرة أزمة الوقود والكهرباء في القطاع.

هذا وقد حذر الصوراني من مأسسة الحصار موضحاً أن أسبابه حتى من وجهة النظر الإسرائيلية قد زالت بإطلاق سراح الجندي شاليط.

وحث الصوراني الدبلوماسيين الثلاثة على العمل على وضع حد للحصار الإسرائيلي الظالم وغير القانوني وغير الإنساني لما يخلفه من آثار مأساوية تطال مختلف مناحي الحياة في قطاع غزة.

من ناحية أخرى، أثار الصوراني خلال اللقاء ملف حرمان أهالي معتقلي قطاع غزة من زيارة أبنائهم المحتجزين في السجون الإسرائيلية، وتطرق للسياسات الإسرائيلية المنتهجة بحق المعتقلين الفلسطينيين في سجون الاحتلال وفي مقدمتها العزل، الاعتقال الإداري، تدني شروط الاحتجاز، وما يتعرض له المعتقلون من معاملة غير إنسانية وحاطة بالكرامة.
