On Wednesday, 11 May 2016, gunmen shot dead a civilian on grounds of family dispute in Khan Younis. This incident is part of proliferation of weapons and assault on the rule of law in the oPt.
According to investigations conducted by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) at approximately 17:30 on Wednesday, 11 May 2016, ‘Alian Mohammed Ibrahim Islayeh (22) from Ma’en area, east of Khan Younis, was hit with a bullet that penetrated his mouth and exited the back of his head when he was with his relatives on the street near Ma’en Club. As a result, Islayeh fell on the ground and started bleeding. He was then taken by a civilian car to the Gaza European Hospital, but he died upon arrival.
According to the police and eyewitnesses, two gunmen opened fire at Islayeh on grounds of previous family problems while he was standing with a number of relatives in the neighborhood.
The Palestinian police immediately arrived at the scene, arrested a number of suspects and then opened an investigation into the incident.
PCHR condemns the killing of ‘Alian Islayeh and is deeply concerned over the increasing number of victims due to using firearms. PCHR also calls upon the competent authorities to take necessary measures to stop this phenomenon and maintain civilians” safety and security.
